This adventure takes us to the African continent for the first time. Tag along my journey as I give you recommendations on how to take on three beautiful Moroccan cities.
Chefchaouen
How we got there: The closest airport is in Tangier and it’s about a two hour drive. I suggest setting up an airport pickup with your hotel for your convenience. It cost us 75 euros.
Where to stay in Chefchaouen: Casa Elias, located right in the middle of everything you need to be close to. Rooms are clean, staff is super accommodating. I highly recommend staying there.
Where to eat in Chefchaouen: Bab Ssour Restaurant. Found this place to be the best as far as taste and price. There’s one location next to Casa Elias and another near the main square. Try to sit upstairs on the balcony, the views are impeccable!
Fez
How we got there: We took a bus from the Chefchaouen bus station to Fez. It will cost you about 7-9 euros a person. The ride took about 5 hours to get there with a 20-minute stop.
Where to stay in Fez: Riad Tizwa, located about a 7-minute walk from the old Medina where you can find small restaurants and shops. Our room was spacious and the people that worked there were so welcoming and made you feel at home. They even make dinner reservations for you as well. (I highly recommend you doing that in Fez as the high rated restaurants get filled up quickly) Breakfast is delicious as they provide a variety of choices.
Where to eat in Fez: The Ruined Garden for Moroccan food & Cinema Cafe for western food.
Marrakech
How we got there: We booked a camel tour in the desert with Marrakech Camel Trips. They picked us up from our Fez accommodations and dropped us off at our Marrakech accommodations. The tour was for two nights and three days. But more on that later.
Where to stay in Marrakech:Riad Boussa. First off, the location is perfect as it is walking distance to the souks and many main attractions. I can’t say enough about the staff as they went above and beyond all expectations. The owner of the Riad, Brigitte, was there at all times with full knowledge about Marrakech. The breakfast is very tasty and permitting the weather, you can enjoy it out on the terrace that is beautifully decorated.
Where to eat in Marrakech: Naranj. Their food is made with fresh ingredients with delicious vegetarian options. And also look into Corner Cafe as it has a quiet & relaxing atmosphere with great WiFi.
And one of the best meals we had was at Riad Boussa. If you’d like to get away from the crowds and have a romantic dinner look into eating there on Friday nights. David and I couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing and carefully prepared that meal was. Impeccable!
Our 3-day tour started with us being picked up at 8 in the morning from our hotel. We made some stops to see beautiful sights we wouldn’t have gone to on our own. When we finally made it to the desert we were greeted with our camels. They were precious boys named Bob and Jimmy..haha! After our trek through the dunes we made it to our campsite.
Now this is where I was shocked. I did not expect it to be this type of setup. It had Morocco chic written all over it. The way they had designed this area was total perfection. Our tent was the size of an actual hotel room equipped with a toilet and shower. By the time dinner came around we were starving. So we chowed down on our 4-course meal. Yes, you read it correctly, and it was absolutely delicious! Definitely another favorite Moroccan meal.
The next morning we were woken up to watch the sunrise and have breakfast before getting back on Bob and Jimmy for a ride back to the car to continue with our tour. Our guide Ali was a pleasure to be around so the car rides were fun. He stopped at many jaw dropping sights where you definitely want to have your camera charged.
The second night we were dropped off at Hotel Babylon Dades which I would highly recommend while you are in Dades Valley.
Our venture to Marrakech started again the next morning but with more amazing stops along the way.
Now that the tour is done with, David and I can’t stop recapping and bringing up our experience.
And I must say, if you went to Morocco and didn’t book this tour, you didn’t do Morocco right!
Special thanks to Marrakech Camel Trips for their hospitality and to Riad Tizwa and Riad Boussa for hosting us. As always the opinions here remain my own.
